Bandai Namco’s Code Vein had a fairly significant delay, but finally released to decent critical acclaim. It’s also done well in sales. The publisher recently confirmed that over one million copies of the action RPG have been sold worldwide.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world with vampire-like Revenants, Code Vein mixes elements of the Souls genre with the God Eater series. Along with different weapon types, one can fight with an AI partner, select different classes or “Blood Codes” for different styles and utilize abilities called Gifts. The narrative is also fairly involved despite some typical anime trappings.
Code Vein is out now for Xbox One, PS4 and PC with more content coming in the Season Pass. The first is Hellfire Knight, which is out now and adds new tough boss with several challenges to complete, new weapons to use and alternate outfits to unlock. Two other DLC packs are expected in early 2020, so stay tuned for more details.
