Control 2 is an Action RPG, Per Remedy

The highly anticipated sequel to Control is in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It will enter full production in 2025.

With the ending of Alan Wake 2: The Lake House teasing it and Remedy confirming the start of full production in 2025, Control 2’s development is starting to pick up steam. There’s very little known about the sequel besides Annapurna Pictures co-financing it. However, the developer confirmed something unexpected at this year’s Capital Markets Day: Control 2 will be an action RPG.

On the surface, this could mean implementing aspects like gear, leveling, stats, and whatnot. The first game offers Ability Points earned from various side missions, which are used to upgrade different abilities unlocked throughout the game. Weapon and Personal Mods also come in different rarities, raising in effectiveness.

Whether the sequel will expand on these elements, go full looter shooter, or something else remains to be seen. Though it doesn’t have a release date, Control 2 is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Remedy is also working on FBC: Firebreak, multiplayer co-op spin-off set years after the first game. It launches next year and will be “mid-priced” title.
