FBC Firebreak

Remedy Entertainment may have started the latest Xbox Partner Preview with Alan Wake 2: The Lake House, but it closed with the first gameplay of FBC: Firebreak. As a spin-off to Control, the co-op first-person shooter is launching in 2025, with Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC versions confirmed. It’s also available on day one for Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium.

On Xbox Wire, game director Mike Kayatta clarifies that FBC: Firebreak is neither a sequel nor DLC for Control. “It’s not designed to be some kind of lesser, bite-sized Control. FBC: Firebreak is its own, fully formed thing.”

As the Federal Bureau of Control’s first responders, you must deal with the threats wandering through The Oldest House. Guns are only one part of their toolset, as they also utilize Altered Items, repurposed into augments which communications director Thomas Puha describes as “more or less our take on ‘ultimates’ and are not to be taken lightly.”

“I like to think of them as a jaguar in a box [laughs]. You carry the box, you point it at something, you open the box, and you just kind of hope the jaguar doesn’t turn around and eat you or your friends instead.”

Puha also clarified that while FBC: Firebreak isn’t a games-as-a-service title, it will receive new content post-launch to “keep the game fresh” and “give a reason to come back.” The developer also aims for a quick and easy “pick-up-and-play experience” without FOMO elements. Of course, there will still be “deep player progression” and “things to unlock” for those who put in the time.

Stay tuned for more details on FBC: Firebreak in the coming months. For those craving more single-player titles from Remedy, Control 2 is also in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
