With the most recent trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 getting people excited (even with concerns over the first person perspective), the obvious question one would have to ask is if it’s coming to current gen hardware. After all, E3 2018 saw Bethesda announce that The Elder Scrolls 6 would be hitting the next generation. Could Cyberpunk 2077 follow suit, especially given how far off its release might be?
Fortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case for now. Speaking to Game Informer, quest designer Patrick Mills responded to the game skipping this console generation by stating, “I’ve heard a number of people say that. The current console generation is what we’re aiming for. We are aiming for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and of course PC as well.”
The key word is “aiming”. It wouldn’t be strange for plans to change down the line or even for Cyberpunk 2077 to be a cross-generational title. Based on impressions from closed doors gameplay (which may have been running on PC for all we know), the game seems fairly polished at this stage. CD Projekt RED will provide more information down the line but suffice to say that a release date will only be announced “when it’s done”.
