Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Says Next-Gen Consoles Are “Going To Be Awesome”

CD Projekt RED's John Mamais says, "We'll see what we can do with those."

CD Projekt RED was present at PAX Australia, showcasing Cyberpunk 2077 and sharing new details (like how Demon Software works and whether there will be Switch port). GameSpot held an interview with John Mamais, who works at CD Projekt RED’s Krakow office. Given how close the RPG is launching to next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, what are Mamais’s thoughts on the same?

“It’s going to be awesome. It’s always cool to have new consoles coming out and I can’t wait to work on those things. We’ll see what we can do with those. It’s fun watching games evolve; they’re looking more and more realistic, which is – I like working on games like that. The more powerful the technology, or the consoles, the more it is [good] for me as a game developer.”

While Mamais didn’t outright confirm whether Cyberpunk 2077 would be released for next-gen consoles, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched. After all, given all the powerful hardware that the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will be touting – like solid state drives and AMD Zen 2 CPUs – taking advantage of the same would be great. Plus, there’s all the potential new consumers that a next-gen version could bring.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently slated to release on April 16th 2020 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Stay tuned for more details on the title in the coming months.
