Cyberpunk 2077 – Full-Blown, Next-Gen Versions Releasing Later

An upgrade for the PS4 version on PS5 hasn't been confirmed yet, as per CD Projekt RED.

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED had some new information to share on the upcoming FPS/RPG in its recent earnings call. It noted that the game was on track for its September release with post-launch DLC to follow a pattern similar to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In subsequent Q&A (translated by VGC), CD Projekt SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski commented on whether next-gen versions would be available at the launch of the Xbox Series X and PS5.

You’ll recall that the company already promised an enhanced version of Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox Series X, available at launch courtesy of Microsoft’s new Smart Delivery System. Nowakowski repeated this, stating that, “In terms of Microsoft’s console, like I said, we have officially confirmed both the update and the cross-gen availability, meaning that you’ll be able to play the game from the get-go on the next-gen.

That being said, “proper” next-gen versions will take time. “However, when it comes to a proper, full-blown next-gen version, that’s going to come later, we haven’t announced when and I don’t have a new comment here on that.”

CD Projekt RED didn’t confirm whether the PlayStation 5 would take a similar approach, allowing the PS4 version to be enhanced on the console. The company isn’t confirming or denying anything for now. “There’s no official announcement coming from PlayStation so we really can’t confirm or deny anything. It’s PlayStation that first needs to address these issues and then we’re happy to make a comment, but we can’t jump the gun ahead of them.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently slated to release on September 17th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. It was originally slated to release in April but faced a delay for more polish. Following the recent COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the development team switched to working remotely. While the release is on schedule, some voice work might need to be added in day one patch. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
