Cyberpunk 2077 Weapons System Detailed, Dismembering Will Be Brutal

CD Projekt RED briefly talks about the combat in its upcoming RPG.

Though CD Projekt RED did not show any gameplay from their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 to the masses at E3, they did show a meaty, almost hour-long demo to the media at the show in a behind-closed doors showing, and like almost everyone else who got to see it, we came away thoroughly impressed with what we saw. We learned lot about a great many things, and it looks like as time progresses, we’re going to keep learning even more, with the Polish developer much more willing to talk about the game than it has been in recent months and years.

We’re also learning new things about the combat, for instance. In an interview with VG247, the game’s lead cinematic animator Maciej Pietras spoke briefly about the combat in Cyberpunk 2077, what kinds of variations it will have, and how the melee systems will work. “When it comes to combat we have three different types of weapons,” Pietras said. “Each are for a different approach to the gameplay. What I can tell you about hand-to-hand combat is that we will have it; where you can use the katana or other weapons. It’s a cool thing because we have a dismembering system. It’s visceral, it’s brutal.”

From what we saw and heard of the game at E3, it looks like the combat will have some level of variation. The main playable character of Cyberpunk 2077 is also quite agile and nimble, so movement seems to be key to the entire system, while a variety of abilities and powers will also play a part in spicing it up. So yeah, as it stands right now, combat is looking like an exciting prospect- we just don’t have enough information to say either way for sure, though. But we’re hoping that will change some time in the future as CDPR release more details. Till then, stick with GamingBolt for continued coverage.
