Cyberpunk 2077 Will See Heavy Censorship In Japanese Version

The game will get hit by the country's stricter guidelines.

Much like the genre it hopes to recreate, Cyberpunk 2077 aims to bring the mature and gritty content. While the game is less about violence and over the top destruction unlike other open world games (though apparently it can be played similarly to that if you want it to be), it’s still going to be a bloody affair, as well with added sex and nudity. As you’d also expect, some regions are going to have a bit of a problem with that.

As reported by Press Start in talking about how the Australian version of the game will be uncensored, they mention that the Japanese version will actually be heavily censored. Things like adding underwear to naked character, blurring or cutting out genitals, removing sexual content, and toning down gore will apparently be on the menu.

If you are familiar with Japan, it’s not too big of a surprise. The country tends to have stricter guidelines when it comes to violent and sexual content, and Cyberpunk 2077 seems like it’s pushing some things to the limit. If you happen to be in Japan as a native or an expat, you’ll need to be aware of that. There are ways around this nowadays, though, especially if you’re on PC.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release November 19th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
