Dark Souls 2 will be direct and accessible, not mysterious and subtle, says director

Well... wait, what?

Dark Souls 2 director Tomohiro Shibuya is at it again with his comments on accessibility. He says that Dark Souls 2 will be- in gameplay, story and everything else- direct and straightforward, as compared to the original Dark Souls, which was subtle and a little ambiguous all over.

“I personally feel that the covenant system was something that was difficult to fully absorb and experience in Dark Souls, and I intend to make it more accessible to players,” Shibuya told Edge. “And that’s not just with the covenant system, but with a lot of other aspects that I felt were difficult to fully adapt to.”

“I’m hoping to make some of that a little bit more clear or directly expressed to the player as well,” he said. “Not just in the story, but messaging.”

“A lot of elements were very subtle in Dark Souls, and that was something that was characteristic to Dark Souls,” he continued. “But I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct instead of subtle, so I think that part of me will [result in] a difference for players when they pick up Dark Souls II. It will be more straightforward and more understandable.”

Well, From Software seems to be hellbent on making Dark Souls 2 a lot more accessible. Do you guys agree with the direction the development team is taking with this game? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
