Bohemia Interactive’s ever-in-development DayZ still remains in Steam Early Access but it was announced for the Xbox One back in E3 2015. It’s not an exclusive, of course – the PS4 version was confirmed as far back as Gamescom 2014. So what’s going on? The developer’s initial Twitter noted that the Xbox One version would hit the Game Preview program “at some point” in 2018.
As for the PS4 version? “We’re not sure about PS4 yet, but we’ll release there too, eventually – just don’t know when yet,” says the official tweet. Which is pretty concerning for all the right reasons but that’s been the story of development. A new update is coming which will bring new crafting mechanics, new animals and zombies, diseases, a new damage system and hit zones for players and animals and so on.
Unfortunately, since this update was pushed to 2018, we’re not really when to expect it. At this point, with competitors like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite: Battle Royale finding success with elements of survival and crafting in a Last Man Standing format, it remains to be seen how relevant DayZ’s survival sandbox could be.
