Dead Cells Crosses 10 Million Sales, Developer “Experimenting With Ideas” for Future Updates

Evil Empire is "exploring the path forward for the title as a whole" and looking at "new ways for fans to enjoy one of their favorite roguelikes."

Motion Twin’s Dead Cells has hit a new sales milestone, with over 10 million copies sold since its initial early access launch in 2017. Since it was released for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch in August 2018, it’s received dozens of free updates and four paid content packs, each adding new biomes, weapons, bosses and more. It was also ported to iOS and Android.

Some prolific content additions include collaborations with other properties, from Shovel Knight, Terraria, Risk of Rain and Hyper Light Drifter to Konami’s Castlevania in the Return to Castlevania DLC. Developer Evil Empire is “exploring the path forward for the title as a whole” and “tinkering with its time-tested methodology, experimenting with ideas for future updates and new ways for fans to enjoy one of their favorite roguelikes,” per a recent press release.

The latest update for Dead Cells is the Clean Cut Update, which added new weapons, a Speedrun Mode, and enhanced versions of bosses from Return to Castlevania in Boss Rush. What shape future updates will take remains to be seen, but regardless, fans can look forward to even more. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
