Dead Rising 4 Developers Defend The Game

And they quote Steve Jobs to make their point. Yikes.

Dead Rising has a lot of vocal, outspoken fans- which is exactly why the upcoming Dead Rising 4, which seems to be such a major and dramatic departure from older games in the series, is such a controversial game. This has caused a whole lot of outrage and backlash against the game before it has even had a chance to release, causing Capcom Vancouver’s Director Joe Nickolls to try and address the criticism in an interview with GamesIndustry.

“Video games is a tough business. It is a tough crowd. The internet has allowed everyone to become a critic, and everyone is equal on the internet. I think the way that Capcom, and our studio in particular, wins is by talking to them,” he said. “The timer… some people don’t care about the timer, some people hate the fact that it’s not in the game, some people hated the timer and love the fact we’ve got rid of it. So what do we do? Well, we put the timer in multiplayer, and then put it back in towards the end of the game, where we think it matters.

“Bryce (Cochrane, Executive Producer at Capcom Vancouver) and I have been doing this for such a long time that we remember the very first time that a second analogue stick came out. I remember working at EA and they were making NHL, which was the first sports game to use the right stick. And people were like: “I hate it. I’m not using it.” Now everyone uses it.

“Steve Jobs said it best when he said: “A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them,”” he concluded.

Quoting Steve Jobs is big game, as is comparing the game to the second analog stick. I hope Dead Rising 4 manages to stick the landing- in spite of the changes, it looks to be an intriguing enough game to me.
