Dead Rising 4 Shipments Reach 700,000 Units Worldwide

Capcom calls the sales 'firm.'

While Capcom is doing just fine on the Resident Evil and Monster Hunter front, it looks like Dead Rising 4, the newest entry in its other zombie action series, isn’t doing so hot. Capcom announced that by December 31, 2016, shipments for Dead Rising 4 across Xbox One and PC had reached 700,000 units worldwide.

While this number appears to be disappointingly low – in an era when previously niche games like Dark Souls, Fire Emblem, and Persona break the million units sold mark worldwide, it comes across as disappointing – Capcom maintains that the sales for the game were ‘firm.’

There can be many reasons for why Dead Rising 4 has not done as well as previous games in the series– one immediate issue that comes to mind is that the PC version is only available through the Windows Store for now (though it will be on Steam in couple of months), and that has to be throttling sales. There is also the fact that Dead Rising 4 has made a lot of departures from series norms, which have proven to be controversial among series fans- maybe they have just ended up alienating fans, while failing to attract new ones.

That said, Dead Rising 4, which is currently available on only Xbox one and Windows 10 PCs, is eventually slated to launch on Steam, and later, even possibly other consoles like PS4 and Nintendo Switch- who knows, we might see an uptick in its sales then.
