Death Stranding: Hideo Kojima Explains Damage Sensor Mechanic

That yellow tape you're seeing is not just there for stage dressing.

You’re tired of hearing it, we’re tired of saying it- but after all this time, we haven’t the slightest just what the hell Death Stranding is about. We recently saw plenty of gameplay footage at E3 2018, though, and we did manage to pick up a few things. One of the things fans noticed in the trailer was the bodies Sam – Norman Reedus’ character – was carrying on his back, and what was interesting about it (other than carrying bodies on his back, I mean), was that they seemed to be wrapped in yellow tape that reads “VOID IF TAMPERED”.

Apparently, that tape is not just there for visual purposes- it’s actually going to be a gameplay mechanic in the game. Hideo Kojima recently took to Twitter and explained that the tape will act as a sort of damage indicator in the game, and will signify through visual cues if the packages Sam is carrying on his back (the dead bodies) are taking any damage.

The tape will have a sensor inside of it, which will change colours if the package takes any damage. So… Sam is going to be a FedEx guy who delivers dead bodies, confirmed? It sounds intriguing, but honestly, I’m just waiting for the day when all these tidbits finally come together and Kojima decides that it’s finally time to let us know just what the hell is going on in his game.
