The world was first introduced to Death Stranding with its reveal trailer at E3 2016. It was a mysterious, enigmatic trailer for what was Hideo Kojima’s first project after a very public and messy split from Konami. One thing that was equally in the dark about the game was the band that helped introduce us to the game, as Low Roar didn’t even know what their music was actually being licensed for.
Talking to VG24/7, Lead Singer of Low Roar, Ryan Karazija, revealed that he and the rest of the band actually had no idea what their music was being purchased for. They were contacted by Sony to use their song ‘I’ll Keep Coming’ in vague terms for an unknown project. They were as surprised as everyone else when it came to the original reveal trailer.
“Sony contacted us in an obscure email offering us a certain amount of money to use the song ‘I’ll Keep Coming’, and they were not willing to tell us what they’re going to use the song for,” he said. “At that time we were in a gutter so we accepted it. And it turned out it was for Death Stranding.”
The presence of that song and the other ones from Low Roar helped raised the Icelandic band’s status since then, so the mystery paid off well for them in the end. We know Hideo Kojima is working hard on his next project, and the man has an ear for music, for sure. You can hear more from Low Roar by checking out their albums, as well as in Death Stranding, which is available now for PS4.
