Bungie and its player base for Destiny 2 are gearing up for the Season of Opulence with new raid and nerfs for all your favourite Exotics. However, even as preparations are made for World’s First in Crown of Sorrows, the development team will have more to share on its “new era” in the near future. At least, according to community manager David “DeeJ” Dague.
In the latest This Week at Bungie, Dague said, “Right now, our focus is on Opulence. But after the Season has launched and Raid belts have been awarded, we’ll be looking deeper into the future, and sharing with you more about a new era for Bungie and Destiny 2.”
With Season of Opulence releasing on June 4th and the raid going live on the same day, it seems somewhat likely that new information is revealed at E3. Bungie is no longer with Activision, retaining the publishing rights to the Destiny IP following its split away from the publisher.
As for what the future of Destiny could possibly hold, there have been rumours about 2020 release for Destiny 3, which will allegedly focus on the “hardcore”. That would allow Bungie to release another Forsaken-style expansion with an accompanying Annual Pass for content into the next year. The real question is whether it will sustain interest in the franchise until the inevitable sequel. Stay tuned for more information in the meantime.
