Destiny 2 Was Originally Going To Launch This Month

The entire release cycle for Destiny is now staggered by one year, however.

We’re getting Destiny: The Taken King this month (next week in fact), a full fledged expansion and redo of Destiny that is promising to make the game what it always should have been to begin with, but the original plan was to have Destiny 2 launch right around this time. This was back when Destiny was supposed to be launching in September 2013, before a last minute delay thanks to a complete change of the game’s story caused it to be delayed by year.

This means that The Taken King was set for release last year, the Destiny 2 equivalent of Taken King for next year, Destiny 3 for 2017, and so on. As it stands right now, this ten year plan for release has been staggered by one year.

The dates are cited in a contract between Marty O’Donnell and Bungie dated December 31, 2010, and have been revealed thanks to the court case between the two parties that we reported on earlier.

If and when Destiny 2 does launch, I would hope that it is a far superior product to what we have currently.

Thanks Venturebeat.
