Developers Show Off Alien: Isolation in Third Person at GDC

It was going to be a thing, but then they ultimately just ditched it.

The Creative Assembly held a panel where they discussed the development of their hit first person survival horror Alien game from last year, Alien: Isolation. The game, which was widely praised, and generally considered to be the best game with the Alien license that had been made so far, was well received by players too. A large part of this was how the game put you in its world via its first person mode.

So it might surprise you to know that originally, the game was not even going to be first person. it was being developed as a third person game, which you can see form the footage above.

The developers talked about how they looked at other big names in the genre for inspiration- games such as Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil 4, Dead Space- and discussed making Isolation a game in that vein. Ultimately, they settled on first person, but we can still see what the game would have looked like in third person above.
