Blizzard has revealed that playing the PvP modes in Diablo 4 with a Hardcore character risks permanently losing that character if you die. When asked how the game handles Diablo 4‘s PvP for Hardcore characters, gobal community development director Adam Fletcher responded by simply saying “permadeath”.
For context, Hardcore mode is a tradition in action-RPGs where players are at constant risk of permanently losing their characters, as death in Hardcore mode is typically permanent. While Hardcore mode characters are typically focused around various games’ PvE aspects, Diablo 4‘s Fields of Hatred might spark some high-stakes deathmatches between Hardcore mode players.
It is worth noting that Diablo 4 features an achievement for Hardcore characters, which can be earned by getting 10 PvP kills. The Fields of Hatred is optional, however, and players can choose to completely ignore Diablo 4‘s PvP if they so decide.
Leading up to its May 12 Server Slam, Diablo 4 has seen quite few trailers and updates. The most recent one details the game’s various classes, as well as customisation options and build variety.
Diablo 4 is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on June 6.
