V1 Interactive’s upcoming shooter-strategy blend, Disintegration, is looking like a curious project, and being led by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto, it’s certainly being backed by some impressive talent. We’ve seen and heard some interesting things about the game so far, so interest for it in audiences is pretty high.
That said, while we’ve received plenty of details on the game’s multiplayer component so far, there hasn’t been nearly enough focus on the single player campaign- which, as per the developers, is an important part of the game. Recently, in an interview with VGC, game director Marcus Lehto spoke about that particular aspect a bit more, calling the campaign an “intense rollercoaster” with “some nice highs and some real lows”, while also stating that the game’s campaign is going to be a slower paced affair than the multiplayer component.
“The campaign is a full single-player story campaign,” said Lehto. “We take the player on a pretty intense rollercoaster right from the start, so you’ll have some nice highs and some real lows when you can really take in the environment. It’s a little slower paced than multiplayer.
“So in between combat you have the opportunity to explore the environment and look for things that… for instance, you can look for salvage. This is like a currency in campaign that you can use to upgrade your units. They have skill trees that you can upgrade and allow them do better in combat for the upcoming missions.”
Lehto went on to explain that the campaign will also take players to various unique environments, as it tries to sell players on the state the world finds itself in within the context of the game’s setting.
“But also, the campaign takes you across a variety of different unique environments so we really want the player to get a sense of the state of the world and allow it itself to tell part of the story,” he said.
Recently, Lehto has also talked about the tone of the story, and how it takes cues from popular television show Firefly. Meanwhile, you can also get more details on the central narrative premise through here.
Disintegration is due out some time in 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
