It’s been quite the day for classic DOOM. The first three games in the legendary series just dropped on modern consoles for the first time (with the first two also hitting mobile). While it’s always great to see DOOM coming out to new machines, and it’s damn near tradition at this point, something truly special could be coming in the form of a re-release of DOOM 64.
DOOM 64 has become sort of the “lost” game of the franchise. Originally released exclusively for the Nintendo 64, it was a brand new game and a sequel to Doom II. If you really want to dive into it, 64 is also where the ‘lore’ of the series began to develop in a lot of ways (you can jump down that fun rabbit hole if you wish). Unlike other games in the franchise that have been re-released multiple times, it never left the Nintendo 64 for technical reasons; it’s not even had a PC release. But a new rating from PEGI suggests that is about to change, as you can see below.
The rating popped up, possibly by mistake, beside the other three titles that were released today (note that while 64 is only rated for PS4 and PC, so too are DOOM 1-3, meaning it will probably come to all the same systems). While we file all rating leaks under rumor, this is one I’m actively hoping to be true.
