Back when Dragon Age: Origins first launched in 2009, one of several things it received widespread praise and attention for was its eponymous Origins mechanic, which allowed players to choose between multiple backstories for their characters that would go on to inform their adventures in several ways. Subsequent Dragon Age entries didn’t bring that mechanic back, though BioWare has confirmed that, as fans have been hoping for, the upcoming Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be remedying that.
As shared by @shinobu602 on Twitter, the developer recently confirmed in the game’s official Discord channel that origins will be returning in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. While creating their character, players will be able to choose between six different factions that all have “deep roots” all over the continent of Thedas, including the Antivan Crows, the Shadow Dragons, and the Gray Wardens.
Additionally, BioWare has also confirmed that before beginning the game, players will be able to customize their Inquisitor (i.e. the protagonist) from 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition, which will include making “a few key decisions that will impact how The Veilguard begins”.
Dragon Ae: The Veilguard launches this Fall for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. An extensive gameplay reveal is scheduled for June 11. Stay tuned for more details.
