Eidos Montreal, the studio behind the fantastic Deus Ex: Human Revolution has two teams and one of them is currently developing Thief 4.
The game has been a mystery so far and didn’t appear at E3 this year, but studio boss Stephane D’Astous mentioned that they are working hard on it and want the game to be just as good or better than Human Revolution.
Thief 4 might not be like its predecessors since the studio is taking a different approach here and the game will also have an online functionality.
“The success of Deus Ex put two things in perspective for us. Our second game needs to be as good or better than Deus Ex, and it gave a lot of credibility to the studio,” D’Astous said to OXM.
“Putting a successful game under your belt brings more confidence and credibility, and less red tape. We don’t want to be seen as a one trick pony. In Deus Ex, we really wanted to give different options in how to play, and we will want to bring a certain level of that to Thief.
“I think if people spend $60 on a game, they want more than corridor shoot shoot, corridor shoot shoot. People are asking for a little more, so give them the choice of how they want to play.”
Few months ago we reported that the studio is treating the game like new IP and have hired a lot of international staff to bring more flavour to the game.
“There are a lot of challenges to bringing back a great cult IP, but we consider it like a new IP and we are going to respect the spirit of the franchise like we did with Deus Ex. We have more international staff working on Thief, which brings a great flavour to the game,” D’Astous revealed.
“Deus Ex was the kick-start of this new series of great games, and Thief will be part of that. We don’t want to deliver the same each time. Our mandate is to bring new stuff to the table; games that we’ll be talking about for years.”
The game currently does not have a launch window and all the previous games in the series are easily available on Steam and GoG. We do have some concept images from the game that was leaked earlier.
