Elden Ring Mobile Version in Development at Tencent – Rumor

The publisher reportedly seeks to create a free-to-play version with in-app purchases, though it hasn't made much progress.

Fans of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring are still awaiting new details for its upcoming expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree (seemingly in the middle of QA testing). However, it seems Tencent potentially has other plans for the title, like a mobile version.

Reuters reported the same after speaking to three anonymous individuals knowledgeable about the project. After the Chinese tech conglomerate received licensing rights for the title in 2022 (and even acquired a stake in the developer), it had a “few dozen people” develop a prototype. The alleged goal is to create a free-to-play title with in-app purchases akin to miHoYo’s Genshin Impact, but there seemingly hasn’t been much progress.

Elden Ring launched in February 2022 for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. It received rave reviews from critics (check out ours here) and sold 20.5 million units as of May 2023. Neither Tencent nor FromSoftware have announced that a mobile version is in development, but stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
