Frontier Developments surprised quite a few of us last night at Xbox head Phil Spencer’s GDC 2015 session to announce that Elite: Dangerous would be heading to the Xbox One. The persistent, online space adventure will release this Summer and CEO David Braben has already clarified on the official forums that the Xbox One version won’t be dumbed down. It will also not affect development on the PC.
“Elite: Dangerous on Xbox One will be the complete and authentic Elite: Dangerous experience. It will not be ‘dumbed down’. We’ll be working with an all-new audience, but that doesn’t mean a change in direction for the game, and nor does it mean slowing development on the PC version.”
Interestingly, one’s narrative and galaxy state will be shared across the PC, Mac and Xbox One. How this will work remains to be seen – though Windows 10’s unified platform approach could mean cross-save capability – but we’re excited. How about you? Let us know in the comments.
