F1 22 Targets 4K/60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X, Crossplay Coming Post-Launch

Cross-gen play will be available when the racing sim launches on July 1st but full cross-play for two player Career and Online Social arrives later.

With Codemasters Cheshire recently integrating into Criterion Games for the Need for Speed franchise, it’s easy to forget that the developer is also working on F1 22. This year’s iteration makes a number of changes, from VR support to the new F1 Life which allows for purchasing and racing in Supercars. But what can players expect after launch?

GamingBolt spoke to senior creative director Lee Mather who revealed that cross-platform play would be a post-launch feature. “Being entirely honest, cross-play was a massive feature for us this year, and one we were targeting for launch. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, cross-play will be added as a post launch feature.”

Cross-gen play will still be available out of the gate, so those on PS4 and Xbox One can play with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players respectively from day one. “The game will ship with the same cross generational play as F1 2021, but will gain the ability to play full cross-play in two player Career and Online Social races as early as achievable post launch.” Mather also confirmed that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions would target 4K resolution at 60 FPS.

F1 22 is out on July 1st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. You can gain early access on June 28th by purchasing the Champions Edition for $80. This also provides Dual Entitlement, allowing Xbox One players to upgrade to the Xbox Series X/S version and PS4 players to upgrade to the PS5 version. For more details, head here.
