When it comes to Fallout 4, there has been an awful lot made about the fact that crafting plays a big part in the game. There has been so much made of it, in fact, that some are a bit afraid that they are going to have to learn how to be great at crafting in order to win the game. Bethesda’s Pete Hines recently sat down with Gamesradar and put those particular worries to rest. During the interview, Hines made it clear that if you don’t have any interest in crafting, you don’t have to build a single thing, in order to finish the game.
“It’s a completely optional, freeform thing that you can do, if that’s what you want to do,” Hines explained. “If you don’t care about that and you just want to play quests and play side quests, and finish the main quest and that sort of thing then you can just ignore all of this [crafting]. Or do as much or as little as you want. Hines added that there are clearly benefits from using the crafting in Fallout 4. He pointed out on instance, where if you decide to build a town, merchants could show up and set up shop, this can lead to benefits that will certainly help you finish the game, even if it’s not necessary.
Bethesda has already said that there is an actual story reason for crafting as well. The things you can build are also pretty impressive and at first glance, it certainly seems like something players are going to want to do to some extent. Just how much crafting one player wants to do over another will be found out when the game launches for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC on November 10.
