After previously revealing that Final Fantasy 16 wouldn’t have one at launch, the development team confirmed in the game’s Pre-Launch Celebration livestream that there is a day-one patch. It’s about 300 MB and will be available on June 20th, which optimizes performance in “several places.”
Other fixes include a control flag issue that could block progression and another issue causing the game to close unexpectedly (both occurring under “very specific circumstances” currently). There are also some “minor” text issue fixes. The performance optimization is perhaps the biggest deal since the demo’s Performance Mode struggled to maintain 60 FPS.
Time will tell, so stay tuned for more details. Final Fantasy 16 launches on June 22nd for PS5. Though physical copies are out in the wild, Square Enix will take down any videos, streams or images that go live before the official release.
