Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Game Director Details Materia, Is Different From Magic

"What I can say is that it’s something like a skill," says Nomura.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake will obviously play a bit differently than the original did. We already know that it will have an action based combat system rather than command based one, and players will be able to use cover in-game for stealth sections. We also know bit about destructible environments, and about how boss battles will work.

And now we also have some information regarding something known as “Materia.” When asked in an interview with Famitsu about the three-pronged ATB gauge of the game and what exactly “Materia” is, game director Tetsuya Nomura said that Square weren’t going to talk about the ATB gauge just yet, but did give some information on Materia.

“As for the ATB and techniques, those are for another time,” he said. “Regarding Materia, what I can say is that it’s something like a skill. Different from magic, you can use it when you’ve set a Materia that has an effect that can be used in battle.”

It definitely looks like Final Fantasy 7 Remake is shaping up nicely. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates.
