Forza Horizon 2 Runs on Different Engines for Xbox One and Xbox 360

Playground Games' Ralph Fulton says they can be considered "different games inspired by the same ideas".

Forza Horizon 2 is currently in development by Playground Games, which created the first tile, for the Xbox One but it’s also heading to the Xbox 360. Taking a page out of Respawn Entertainment’s book, the Xbox 360 version is being handled by a different studio, namely Sumo Digital. It shouldn’t be surprising then that both games run off different engines.

Studio creative director Ralph Fulton confirmed this to DigitalSpy, stating that the Xbox One version uses the Forza 5 engine while the Xbox 360 version uses the original Forza Horizon engine.

“It’s based in the same world, it’s based on the same themes. Rather than thinking of them as the same game on different platforms, they are different games inspired by the same ideas.

“There are things we are doing in Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One that honestly couldn’t be done on any other console.”

Forza Horizon 2 releases on September 30th for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and we’ll find out in the coming months which features make it to both versions.
