Gamescom 2020 Still Scheduled To Occur, But Is Prepared For Cancellation

The event will maybe occur at the end of August.

This is the time of the year where the games industry is generally at its busiest. Several major conferences hit back to back to back, and it’s a time when video game companies are doing some of their most aggressive marketing. But this year has been turned upside down due to the global pandemic of the coronavirus. We’ve already seen both E3 and GDC being canceled due to the outbreak. The next major conference on the calender after those is Gamescom 2020, and though right now it’s still on, the organizers  are preparing for that to change.

Via its official Twitter, Gamescom has confirmed the event is still scheduled to continue. But they are being cautious and saying there are plans in place if a cancellation does occur, and attendees will be reimbursed in some form for their tickets. You can see the full statement below.

Gamesom 2020 is set to take place in Cologne, Germany. It’s an international event and typically set up for far more people than the other mentioned conferences. It will occur at the end of August, so officials from the event are probably hoping that by then the current outbreak will have died down. But all things considered, the scales are probably tipped to this one not happening either.
