Gears 5’s stream of post-launch content is continuing at a steady rate, and its newest content drop looks like it’s going to be a fun one. Operation 3: Gridiron is out now, and Microsoft have revealed a new trailer for it, showing lots of action, carnage, sports (yes), and, of course, the indomitable Cole Train.
The centre of attraction here is the new mode, the titular Gridiron, which is essentially a capture the flag variant, but with zero respawns. Capture and hold an enemy flag for five seconds to score points, and the team with the most points at the end of the match wins. Other than Augustus Cole, Operation 3: Gridiron brings back various other playable characters as well, including Queen Myrrah, Clayton Carmine, and more, not to mention new maps to play on. Operation 3: Gridiron will also be playable for free from April 6 to April 12.
Gears 5 is out now on Xbox One and PC, and will support Smart Delivery on Xbox Series X when the next-gen console launches this Holiday. Meanwhile, the turn-based strategy title Gears Tactics is coming to PC on April 28.
In related news, Gears 5’s multiplayer designer Ryan Cleven also recently left The Coalition. Read more on that through here.
