With five years having passed since the release of the last mainline Gears of War game, series fans continue to grow increasingly antsy about when its next instalment will release, though Microsoft and developer The Coalition did recently allay some of those fears with the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day. When exactly is the prequel going to launch, however?
Its announcement trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month did not come with a release date or window, leaving many to wonder if the game is farther away than expected. However, as per The Verge’s Tom Warren, that may not be the case. Writing in his weekly newsletter Notepad, the journalist has claimed that as per his sources, Gears of War: E-Day was targeting a release at some point in 2025 until as recently as a few months ago.
Warren says that plans may have changed based on the fact that a release window wasn’t announced at the Xbox Games Showcase, but he says it shouldn’t be too long before the game comes out either way. As per previous plans, Gears of War: E-Day was targeting a release before Q4 of the year (which is when Fable is allegedly releasing), so we might hear more about it at some point in the coming months.
Gears of War: E-Day is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s going to be linear game and will go back to the series’ horror-esque roots, with story that will take place over multiple days.
