To no one's surprise, it has been confirmed that John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro will reprise their roles as Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.
Previous Gears of War boss Rod Fergusson has revealed that his plans for the series' next numbered entry prior to his departure involved a new setting.
The Coalition and Microsoft announced a new prequel in the franchise at the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month.
The Coalition's Matt Searcy says the prequel will "feel like a new game. It's going to feel fresh and good at the same time."
"Gears has a pretty clear DNA for gameplay modes, so you can probably anticipate where we'll be going with E-Day," says Matt Searcy.
The third-person shooter was targeting a release sometime in 2025 until some months ago, it's been claimed.
The story is about being with its "leads every minute, through the days that play out of the city, and really experiencing it through their eyes."
Here's everything that's been revealed about the next mainline Gears of War entry.
Gears of War: E-Day is not only going back in time for its story, it's also going back to the first game's horror roots.
Unlike Gears 5, which experimented with semi-open world areas, E-Day is going to be an entirely linear experience.
The game will boast "over 100 times more environment and character details than Gears 5," according to The Coalition.
The prequel "adds detail and context to this period that will resonate through stories that will follow".
Set fourteen years before the events of the first game, Gears of War: E-Day is described as the franchise's next mainline entry.
