2017 has been a fantastic year for games- in just the first three months, we received some great games, such as NieR Automata, Nioh, Mass Effect Andromeda, Tales of Berseria, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD, Resident Evil 7, and Yakuza 0, to say nothing of games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, and of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which may be among the greatest games ever made.
You will be happy to know that none of these got the much deserved mantle of being the highest selling game in the UK in the first three months of this year. No, instead, the highest selling game in the UK in Q1 2017 was Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands (via MCV).
Wildlands is still a good enough game, and I sort of see its appeal to the more mainstream player, so I won’t begrudge it its success, of course- especially since some of the other great games, such as Zelda and Horizon, did well enough, too. But still, I have to admit, I wish that those games had done a bit better- I think they are fantastic games that deserve to be enjoyed by the maximum number of people they can be.
