Grand Theft Auto 5 Now The Largest Video Game Launch in UK History

Beats out previous record-holder Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 has seen amazing sales worldwide, earning nearly $800 million in day one revenues across the world and earning top critical scores to achieve universal acclaim. Now, Gfk Chart Track, which works with UKIE to publish the weekly game charts for all platforms in the UK, has revealed that Grand Theft Auto 5 has become the largest video game launch in UK history.

The game managed to sell 1.57 million units in the first day for £65 million in revenue while the previous record holder, Call of Duty: Black Ops managed to sell 1.41 million units for £58 million in its first day at retail back in November 2010. So yes, Grand Theft Auto 5 has done what Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 effectively couldn’t.

Of course, analysts predict that Call of Duty: Ghosts will nudge out GTA 5 when it releases on November 5th worldwide. We’ll find out if that’s really the case in the coming weeks.
