As we await new details on Grand Theft Auto 6, especially with rumors claiming that’s been content-ready for some time, Rockstar’s magnum opus reportedly won’t receive physical edition. This is according to PPE.pl, whose source, Graczdari, leaked the release date of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s PS5 version.
The leaker in question is allegedly associated with European game distribution and revealed that they were receiving “more and more information” about the lack of a physical version at launch. Apparently, this is to protect leaks, and given how physical copies tend to break street date weeks before launch, it’s a valid concern.
The kicker is the “conflicting information” on when the physical edition will be available. It may be three to four weeks after the digital version, but others apparently believe it “won’t happen until early 2027.” There will allegedly be more information in mid-February, though it’s unknown if this will come from Graczdari or Rockstar directly.
As always, the validity remains to be seen, especially since Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 never faced such restrictions. Then again, with all the delays and rumors about development troubles, it certainly sounds like Rockstar doesn’t want people to see the game’s state before launch. Perhaps it has several improvements planned for a day-one patch, and doesn’t want any pre-release negativity from leaks.
Time will tell, and with Grand Theft Auto 6 launching on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, there’s a way to go yet.
