Grand Theft Auto V Mega Blowout: New Details on Character Attributes, Skills and Combat Revealed

Find out just how deep the skill-sets go.

A whole bunch of new details on Rockstar Games’ upcoming Grand Theft Auto V has been revealed. Like, literally, a whole bunch from various sources thanks a round of previews released earlier today.

REV3 Games revealed that when it comes to missions, you can actually form a crew from a whole range of crooks rather than just the three main characters. You can get lock pickers, hackers and other specialists, and play using either stealth or the direct action approach.

It also outlined nine attributes which each character is built on: Special, Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving, Mechanic Ability and Lung capacity. If members of your crew succeed in a mission, their skills get upgraded.

The game was also described as a huge leap visually over its predecessor GTA IV.

GTAV.net has other details in regards to character attributes. For example, like previous game, you customize characters’ hair, clothes, body art and more. The “Special” attribute varies between each of the three leads – Franklin can slow down time while driving thanks to adrenalin rushes; Trevor can do double damage, reduce damage and use a unique attack while in frenzy model; and Michael uses a unique version of slow mo with bullet time.

Each character has their own distinct personality, and this reflects even in the way they move. Michael is the slower and more deliberate man of the bunch, for instance.

Each character has their own proficiency as well, with Franklin being the best driver and Trevor the best pilot, but they can each improve in other skills given time. Skill categories are shared among the three – you can improve them by completing various quests, side missions and activities. Basically, upgrade one character’s skills and the others will follow.

Special abilities rely on a meter, which will slowly recharge if drained.

During missions or cutscenes, one can switch between the three characters manually or have the AI take control for you. Keep in mind, if the character you play as dies, you have to restart from the last checkpoint, even if other characters are still kicking.

The selection wheel is divided into four triangles, with Franklin, Trevor, Michael, and one’s multiplayer character selectable. Interestingly, if you hit Down on the D-Pad, you can transition in and out of multiplayer. Rockstar has also promised more info on the same in the future.

Grand Theft Auto V is currently scheduled to release on September 17th for Xbox 360 and PS3.
