When you have multiple playable characters in a game like Grand Theft Auto 5, fans will expect some sort co-operative gameplay mechanics. Take EA’s Army of Two games for instance. EA Montreal did an excellent job of integrating interesting co-op mechanics in the game. So a game with three playable protagonists should have co-op. But that’s what we think, not Rockstar
Rockstar’s Dan Houser believes that one could make a great co-op game but it will hurt that the level of precision they are aiming with the game.
“It would be impossible to do that and keep the level of precision we’ve got in this,” he said to IGN.
However Rockstar are working on the multiplayer aspects that will hopefully fill up that co-op vacuum. “You could make a great co-op game, but we felt that we’re doing other bits of our multiplayer that will fulfill those desires in ways we think are very fun”, he said.
Rockstar did an amazing job with Grand Theft Auto 4’s multiplayer and hopefully they will iterate that successfully with GTA 5. The game is due for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with a Wii U/PC version under consideration.
The big day or rather the release window is Spring 2013. We will keep you updated on all things GTA 5 till then. Stay tuned.
