Freemode Events will finally be coming to GTA Online next week, Rockstar has confirmed, as part of the same update that will also be bringing the Rockstar Editor to the Xbox one and PlayStation 4. What does that mean? This means that there’ll be a whole host of events on the map, that you can join, without any lobbies, without any waiting time. You just hop in and go.
These events will include everything, from more traditional objectives such as King of the Hill, to a bit more bizarre offerings, such as Penned In, where you’re all trapped inside a bubble that continues to shrink rapidly, and if you end up outside of it, you… die.
In addition, Rockstar also confirmed to Kotaku that updates for the game will henceforth only come for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of the game. This is because the last generation evrsions will no longer be able to cope with further additions.
“We always knew there might be a point where we would reach the technical capacity of what the older generation of consoles can handle as each downloadable update requires additional memory both for assets and for additional scripting,” says Rockstar. “We have continued to optimize the entire game over time in order to squeeze as much memory as we possibly could out of the last-generation hardware and at some point, continuing to add content for those systems could cause the risk of instability to the game overall.”
That sucks- still, at least they can play the excellent base game. That’s more than Wii U owners can say, for example.
Thanks, EuroGamer.
