Rockstar North’s Grand Theft Auto Online has been a major revenue source for Take Two Interactive. It has reportedly brought in $66.4 million from transactions in the last quarter, according to a recent interview with MCV.
The publisher stated that, “Recurrent consumer spending related to GTA Online represented nearly half of our digitally delivered revenue in the quarter.”
While there was some controversy in the beginning when it was revealed that you could purchase $GTA for real world money, Rockstar neither pushed micro-transactions nor designed the game in such a way that they would be required. You can easily pull off different jobs in order to raise the money you need in GTA Online – and Rockstar has been very kind with extra content, such as the Beach Bum and Valentine’s Day Massacre content packs which were made free.
