GTA5 is an almost five year old game, available across five platforms, and with over 85 million units in sales. At this point, surely, you would think that the game would be nearing saturation point, that it would soon be nearing the level where its sales start to slow down, where we see things begin to taper off for it.
Or you would expect it to be outselling some of the biggest new releases of last year- and that’s exactly what GTA5 is doing right now. According to a report by GamesIndustry.biz, based on combined retail data (so no digital sales) from 15 European territories, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom gathered by market research company GfK, GTA5 is outselling Star Wars Battlefront 2, Destiny 2, and Assassin’s Creed Origins.
This is an amazing result for Rockstar- these kinds of legs are unprecedented. I do wonder what this bodes for the performance of Red Dead Redemption 2.
