The generation is slowly winding down. While no doubt we’ll see a lot of cross-gen material well into 2021, the largest chunk of current generation sales are mostly behind us, outside a few huge exceptions coming in the next year. With that, it’s time to look back at what topped the charts for this generation of consoles. One thing to note about in the US NPD charts for the Xbox brand is that one familiar face still stands pretty tall.
The NPD’s Mat Piscatella posted a breakdown of best selling titles and best selling exclusives for the Xbox One in the US to date. The best-selling games list looks pretty similar to the PS4 one, with Grand Theft Auto 5 being on top and the rest being a mix of various Call of Duty games, Red Dead Redemption 2, Battlefield 1, and Star Wars Battlefront.
The exclusives lists is interesting, as Halo 5: Guardians is still the best selling exclusive on the system. This is even with including PC sales of Play Anywhere titles, as the game still is only on the Xbox One. The Chief’s only rival at the top is himself, with The Master Chief Collection. The rest of the chart includes five different Forza games, Gears of War 4, Sea of Thieves, and State of Decay 2.
This is no doubt at least partially due to Game Pass skewing the numbers more, but it’s interesting to think that despite Halo not being the cultural juggernaut it once was last gen, it’s still got a lot of gas left in the tank. No doubt, Halo Infinite has a shot at getting on the list.
