Halo: Infinite looks to be the most exciting Halo related project we have seen in years. A new engine, a look that harkens back to the classic, Bungie era, and 343 Industries keenly looking to channel the original trilogy that made Halo so big to begin with- you can see why fans are excited.
Apparently, the project is so big that 343 Industries will be enlisting the help of an outside studio as they work on it. Skybox Labs, best known for their work on the EA Sports UFC games, as well as on Age of Empires 2 HD Edition, Project Spark, and Halo 5: Forge for PC, will be working on the game alongside 343 Industries as well.
343 Industries’ Halo boss Chris Lee mentioned that Skybox will actually be assisting across multiple areas on the game. “343 Industries is excited to continue our partnership with SkyBox Labs on Halo Infinite, with their team doing great work across many areas of our project,” he said.
This work includes work not just on the Forge mode, but also the games’s systems and gameplay, AI, visuals, and networking- a prospect that understandably has the studio excited. Which anyone would be, at the chance of getting to work on such a legendary franchise as Halo.
“We have been working closely with 343 Industries on Halo projects for a number of years, and we’re thrilled to be part of this exciting time in Halo’s history,” SkyBox’s Shyang Kong said.
So, on the whole, it looks like over 500 people (roughly 400 for 343 Industries, and 100 for Skybox) are now at work on Halo Infinite. The game itself looks to be the most ambitious Halo project in history- I really hope it manages to revive the franchise’s level of prestige that it used to hold not that long ago. Halo: Infinite is due out on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. Recent reports peg it for a 2019 release, at least for the single player component.
