Helldivers 2 Has Sold Around 1 Million Units

The shooter launched on February 8th for PC and PS5, and sales are "blowing through the estimates", per studio CEO Johan Pilestedt.

Despite some matchmaking issues at launch, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 is performing well, with peak concurrent players on Steam hitting 155,926. The third-person shooter is also Steam’s top-selling game and PlayStation Studios’ most successful release on the storefront yet.

Sales-wise, studio CEO Johan Pilestedt revealed on Twitter, “We are around a million right now.” Whether Sony will release a statement about the sales is “hard to say” (though he “never understood why it would be a secret”). However, Pilestedt confirmed that the developer is “blowing through the estimates at least.” As for the sales split between PC and PS5, it’s “about 50:50 – things are moving so fast right now.”

As a follow-up to top-down shooter Helldivers, Helldivers 2 has been in development for nearly eight years. It’s a third-person shooter and sees Super Earth battling the Terminids across various planets again. A new faction, the Automatons, also presents a threat, and players participate in a massive Galactic War campaign to push them back.

Helldivers 2 will receive new enemies, biomes and objectives for free, alongside story updates to advance the plot for Galactic War. Arrowhead is also working to address issues, including matchmaking woes, with its latest patch also fixing multiple crashes. Stay tuned for further updates in the meantime.
