Dragon’s Dogma 2 emerged as the clear winner of video game sales for the United States in March, but Helldivers 2 wasn’t far behind. Arrowhead’s co-op shooter is not only the best-selling premium title of the year to date but also the seventh-best Sony-published title in the US in terms of dollar sales per Circana.
A good chunk of its success is due to the PC version, as tweeted by Circana analyst and executive director Matt Piscatella. “PC has been a huge part of the success of Helldivers 2 in the US. With PC, Helldivers 2 is already the 7th highest-grossing Sony-published game in history. Without PC, it wouldn’t currently rank among the top 20.”
Furthermore, it’s dominated monthly active user counts on Steam since its launch (April included). However, the earlier comment set some people off, causing them to believe that Helldivers 2 wouldn’t have done well without the PC version. Piscatella clarified, “Just because I’m highlighting the success of the PC SKU here doesn’t mean I’m saying the PlayStation SKU was not also successful, FYI.”
Naturally, that wasn’t enough, leading to another tweet where he added, “To be clear, just the PS5 version would make Helldivers 2 the best-selling game in the US year to date. As would just the PC version.” Long story short, “Both versions are massive hits.”
Updated sales figures for Helldivers 2 have yet to be revealed, though estimates place it at over eight million copies sold. For more details, check out our review. It’s since undergone massive changes, including a balance patch that changed almost every weapon and Stratagem in the game.
