Helldivers 2 Will Continue to Get Support While There Are Players Still Buying Super Credits – CEO

Arrowhead Game Studios' Shams Jorjani also spoke about the development of its next project, dubbed Game 6, and how it's going.

Arrowhead Game Studios has reiterated on its official Discord that it has no plans on slowing down support for co-op shooter Helldivers 2. Spotted by VG247, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani thanked the game’s fan base for its continued support, and went on to say that, as long as there are still players for Helldivers 2 buying Super Credits, the studio will continue to support the game.

“The wonderful thing is that thanks to the amazing support of you FINE people Arrowhead’s future is quite bright and we have the freedom to explore some really cool concepts that we couldn’t have otherwise,” said Jorjani. “Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you.”

This message by Jorjani led to questions on the Discord channel about whether the studio was planning to abandon Helldivers 2 in favour of its next project. “Nah,” responded Jorjani. “It’s ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it slowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time.”

The studio plans to continue supporting Helldivers 2 as long as it possibly can with new content, including Premium Warbonds. While Jorjani did mention that the studio did fall into some rocky waters with support for the game last summer, it has since “turned the ship around,” and will continue to “keep the train going for a long time.”

“As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going,” Jorjani said. “Last summer we were kinda screwing the pooch so it looked like we wouldn’t be able to keep the train going for a long time – but we turned the ship around, you support us a lot so it’s looking bright.”

As for the studio’s next project – dubbed Game 6 by Jorjani – he also spoke about how, thanks to the support of Helldivers 2 players, Arrowhead Game Studios will be more in charge of overall decisions surrounding the title, including whether or not it would get region-locked because of PlayStation Network restrictions. “The next game is 100% funded by ourselves so we’ll call 100% of those shots,” he said.

He also spoke about how development was going for Game 6, emphasising that the studio wanted to make sure that it had the core gameplay foundations laid right before moving on to making the rest of the game. This is so that Game 6 doesn’t end up having the same long, drawn-out development cycle that Helldivers 2 did because the studio wanted to skip pre-production for the title when it was being made.

“For the most part of the development cycle games plain suck,” Jorjani explained. “Very seldom are they truly fun from the get-go. And for Helldivers taking eight years to make it was rough for the longest time. But it came together in the end. The ONLY way to know is to playtest playtest playtest.”

“For our next game we’re doing things in a much smarter way and nailing a lot of the core s**t early on (as you should) then make the rest.”
