The reveal of Resident Evil 7 was definitely among the things that turned the most heads at E3. The new game looks to be a dramatic departure from the norm for the franchise, eschewing its traditional third person point of view for a first person setup that seems to be a lot like P.T., and the slew of indie games that it inspired.
The similarities with P.T. have not gone unnoticed- in an interview with Gamespot, Hideo Kojima, the developer of the Metal Gear franchise, as well as P.T., currently working on his upcoming new IP Death Stranding, was asked to remark on the similarities between the two.
“I guess there’s some influence there, even in the format of having a demo teaser. I haven’t played it yet but I would like to try it,” Kojima said, before remarking that just like he had returned, and Kojima Productions had returned, one could almost think of P.T. having returned in the form of Resident Evil 7.
“If you think about “I’ll keep coming” (the tagline from the recent teaser image from Kojima Productions)–I came back, Kojima Productions came back, I feel like some of the projects came back too.”
Resident Evil 7 is due out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in January 2017.
