Hitman 2’s New Mode Introduces Competition With Other Players’ Ghosts

Face off against a rival player's ghost in a contest to score five kills first.

IO Interactive’s Hitman 2 is bigger, bloodier, and arguably more tactical than its predecessor. While it does have new gadgets and new locations to commit assassinations in, the coolest new feature has to be Ghost Mode. In this mode, players will be competing against another player’s “ghost” to kill five targets first. The targets are selected randomly, and all kills must be unseen.

As the trailer below showcases, you’ll start off without any equipment, and must improvise your approach accordingly. Since the rival ghost is in a separate reality, your actions will have little effect on their mission. Actually, the more time wasted in cleaning up kills, the more progress your opponent will make in their assassinations.

It’s a nifty mode and puts an interesting spin on the time trials and ghosts seen in games like Mario Kart. Hitman 2 has already gone gold and will release on November 13th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. If six locations and two post-launch expansions weren’t enough, Hitman (2016)’s missions will also be playable in Hitman 2 with intriguing new updates.
