Hitman Dev Criticizes Season Passes, Promises “Big Game” at Launch

IO Interactive studio head Hannes Seifert isn't a fan of the season pass philosophy.

IO Interactive will be returning with a new Hitman title later this year but will be taking a decidedly different approach from before. This new open world assassination title will be digital first and release live content over time. Best of all, it will all be free.

In conversation with VideoGamer, studio head Hannes Seifert criticized the current policy of Season Passes in the industry. “There are other products that sell a game for $60 and then try to sell you a Season Pass for another $40 on top…players want to be part of that experience but they don’t necessarily want to be ripped off.

“What we put out there [at launch] is going to be a big game. But over the course of 2016 we’ll add more locations, more missions, and we’ll have things like targets that only appear for, say, two days. That’s something you can only do in the live world.”

Hitman releases on December 8th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
